Nora MarinoNora Marino has been an attorney for over two decades. Shortly after she started practicing law, she inadvertently saw a documentary called “Meet Your Meat”, narrated by Alec Baldwin, which was about the horrors of factory farming. That moment changed Nora’s life in an instant, and she became vegan overnight. She also began researching the plight of animals, and became an activist, attending protests and engaging in other similar activist events. In 2015, Nora formed a not-for-profit organization called “Animal Cruelty Exposure Fund”, whose primary mission was to educate the public with main stream media.[1] ACEF got five commercials aired on mainstream TV throughout the country, and also hosted protests for various animal-rights issues. As an attorney, however, Nora began taking on cases for animals. She unilaterally spearheaded the well-known “Kaporos” case in New York, which attempted to stop an illegal animal slaughter that takes place on public streets in Brooklyn annually. While the case was not successful in the end, it brought a huge amount of media attention to the issue and made it all the way to New York State’s highest Court. Having made a name for herself in the animal rights community, Nora began getting calls from every day people with animal issues, who needed legal help. For years, Nora did whatever she could, pro bono or low bono, to help these people help animals. But there comes a time when the “pro bono” plate is full, and Nora would have to say no to people who needed help. Nora did not want to say no – so now, the Legal Action Network for Animals Law Group is borne. With LANA, Nora and her team can help people help animals, and not say no. LANA will also spearhead large cases involving industries, laws, and statutes, among other things. (Please visit our “Projects” page.) Nora has been named a SuperLawyer by Thomson Reuters for six years in a row now; she was named a Top Woman in Business by the Queen County Courier Newspaper; and she was named one of New York State’s “Women of Distinction” by her then-state Senator. She was also appointed by two Mayors of New York City to act as a Commissioner on New York City’s Taxi & Limousine Commission (unsalaried), and she served as a JAG Officer in the United States Army Reserves. She is a highly respected attorney in her field, with a substantial success rate. Nora fights hard for all of her clients, whether they be victims of accidents, victims of civil rights violation, or animals. |
